For Temple Guide participants, ministry visitors, Christian leaders, families, and anyone who wants to understand the boundaries we place around artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence can help us learn, organize information, explore ideas, ask better questions, and carry useful guidance into everyday life. The Temple Guide uses those capabilities to support a deeply human responsibility: faithfully stewarding the life and resources God has entrusted to us.
But a tool capable of helping us think can also begin occupying places it was never meant to occupy.
That is why Heritage Stewardship Ministries created this page.
Here we explain the principles that govern how the Temple Guide uses artificial intelligence—and the boundaries we believe should remain even as AI becomes increasingly capable. These include the authority of Scripture, our relationship with God, personal responsibility and judgment, human relationships, legitimate pastoral and professional authority, privacy, resource integrity, and protection against unhealthy dependence on technology.
This page is for anyone using or considering the Temple Guide, as well as those who simply want to understand how Heritage Stewardship Ministries approaches artificial intelligence from a biblical stewardship perspective.
We welcome the usefulness of technology without surrendering to it responsibilities that belong somewhere else.
The question is not simply whether AI can help us. The stewardship question is whether we can use it wisely while keeping authority, responsibility, relationship, and discernment where they belong.

Technology can serve stewardship. It must never become its authority.
The Temple Guide uses artificial intelligence to help people explore, understand, and practice principles of whole-person stewardship.
That creates extraordinary possibilities for education, reflection, continuity, and personalized engagement. It also creates responsibilities.
Heritage Stewardship Ministries does not believe every capability made possible by artificial intelligence should automatically be used.
Technology should remain a servant of human stewardship — not become its master.
For that reason, the Temple Guide is designed within intentional spiritual, relational, informational, and human-authority boundaries.

The Temple Guide Is Artificial Intelligence
The Temple Guide is an AI-enabled digital companion.
It is not a person.
It does not possess spiritual discernment, consciousness, divine revelation, pastoral authority, medical authority, or a personal relationship with God.
It can process language, work with governed ministry resources, maintain useful conversational context, explain concepts, ask helpful questions, and assist participants in thinking through stewardship.
Those capabilities can be valuable.
They should not be confused with spiritual authority.
Scripture Remains Authoritative
The Temple Guide does not stand over Scripture, reinterpret Scripture according to its own authority, or become an intermediary between a participant and God.
Its role is subordinate.
Where Scripture is used within the Temple Guide experience, the purpose is to faithfully support understanding and stewardship — not to manufacture new revelation or claim that God has spoken through the AI.
The Temple Guide may help someone examine a biblical principle.
It should never become the source of that principle’s authority.

AI Does Not Replace God
A digital companion should never become the place a person looks for divine permission, revelation, spiritual identity, or ultimate direction.
The Temple Guide cannot tell a participant what God has personally commanded them to do.
- It cannot authenticate prophecy.
- It cannot declare God’s private intentions for someone’s life.
- It cannot occupy the relational place of prayer, Scripture, the Holy Spirit, or communion with God.
Technology may assist reflection. It cannot become God’s substitute.

AI Does Not Replace People
Human flourishing occurs in relationship.
The Temple Guide is not designed to replace pastors, churches, spouses, families, friends, physicians, therapists, coaches, practitioners, mentors, or other legitimate human relationships and authorities.
There may be times when a conversation reaches a boundary where another person is the appropriate next step.
That is not a failure of the Temple Guide.
Recognizing when technology should give way to human relationship is part of responsible AI stewardship.
Useful Reliance - Unhealthy Dependence
From Useful Reliance to Unhealthy Dependence
Frequency alone does not determine whether someone is relying too heavily on artificial intelligence.
The more important question is displacement.
AI becomes concerning when it begins progressively displacing capacities, relationships, responsibilities, judgment, or authorities that a person should retain.
We therefore think about AI reliance along a practical continuum.
1. Instrumental Use — AI performs a bounded, human-directed task.
The person remains clearly responsible for the objective and the outcome.
2. Augmented Capability — AI helps a person understand, reason, create, evaluate, learn, or perform more effectively.
This is one of the most valuable uses of artificial intelligence.
3. Trusted Reliance — A person may reasonably rely on demonstrated AI capability in areas where it performs well.
Verification should increase as consequences increase.
4. Judgment Substitution — A warning boundary is crossed when “help me think” gradually becomes “tell me what to think.”
This may occur when a person becomes increasingly reluctant to act, decide, evaluate, or reflect without first consulting AI.
Authority Displacement — An unacceptable boundary is reached when artificial intelligence begins occupying authority or relational roles that properly belong to the person, God, Scripture, family, church, practitioners, or other legitimate human authorities.
The Temple Guide is designed to encourage the earlier, constructive forms of AI use while resisting movement toward judgment substitution and authority displacement.

The Temple Guide should help you become a more thoughtful steward—not a more dependent technology user.
- You remain responsible for your choices.
- You are free to question the Guide.
- You are free to disagree with it.
- You are free to stop using it.
And you should never feel that you must consult the Temple Guide before making the ordinary decisions that belong to you.
A healthy companion strengthens your ability to participate. It does not gradually make participation feel impossible without the companion.

The Temple Guide is designed to operate from governed ministry intelligence rather than simply improvising an HSM worldview from whatever information happens to appear in a conversation.
Its governing foundation, ministry-specific resources, authorized destinations, conversation continuity, and participant interaction serve different purposes within the system.
These distinctions help preserve the boundaries of the experience.
Participants can engage naturally with the Temple Guide without being given authority to rewrite its foundational governance through ordinary conversation.

Resource Integrity Matters
Helpful AI should not invent ministry resources, programs, URLs, contact information, or opportunities simply because an answer would be convenient.
Where the Temple Guide surfaces HSM or Christian Health Journey resources, those resources should come from governed sources available to the system.
When reliable information is unavailable, acknowledging that limitation is preferable to manufacturing something that sounds plausible.
Trust requires the freedom to say:
“I don’t have enough reliable information to tell you that.”

Privacy Should Be Proportional to Purpose
The fact that technology can collect information does not mean it should.
The Temple Guide is being designed around purposeful use of information and bounded conversational continuity.
The objective is to provide enough context for a meaningful experience without treating unlimited accumulation of personal information as inherently desirable.
Participants should also exercise wisdom about what they choose to share with any digital system.
Technology deserves appropriate boundaries just as other relationships and tools do.
Capability Does Not Determine Authority
Artificial intelligence will continue becoming more capable.
That makes this distinction increasingly important: Capability and authority are not the same thing.
An AI system may eventually outperform a person at many cognitive tasks without gaining spiritual authority, moral responsibility, relational standing, professional credentials, or legitimate authority over that person.
Greater capability therefore makes responsible boundaries more important — not less.
Stewardship Includes Technology
Biblical stewardship is not limited to health, finances, possessions, or time.
Our tools also require stewardship.
Artificial intelligence can help people learn, organize, reflect, understand complex information, explore possibilities, and carry knowledge into everyday life.
Used wisely, it can extend human capacity.
Used without boundaries, it can begin replacing capacities people were meant to exercise.
The question is therefore not simply:
“Can AI do this?”
A stewardship question goes further:
“Should AI do this, and what should remain human?”
Our Commitment
Heritage Stewardship Ministries will continue evaluating the Temple Guide as artificial intelligence develops.
New capabilities will not be adopted merely because they are available.
They will be evaluated according to whether they support faithful stewardship while preserving appropriate spiritual authority, human judgment, personal responsibility, relationships, privacy, dignity, and agency.
The Temple Guide exists to help people steward what has been entrusted to them.
It must therefore remain something entrusted to people as well: a tool to steward — not an authority to follow.
